There has been a rapid increase in household waste generated between 2013 and 2017 in Beijing. In 2013 there was a total household waste of 6.71 million tonnes. In 2014, there was an increase to 7.33 million tonnes - an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. In 2015, household waste generation reached to 7.90 million tonnes, and then got another 10% growth in 2016. In 2017, household waste generation reached to 9.01 million tonnes.
Industrial waste generated in Beijing from 2013 to 2017 has in general seen a sharp decline. In 2013, the number was about 10 million tonnes and then increased to about 12 million tonnes in 2014. However, between 2015 and 2017, industrial waste generation dropped to about 6 million tonnes per year.
Hazardous waste generation was about 130,000 tonnes per year from 2013 to 2017.
For medical waste, Beijing had a gradual increase from 25,400 tonnes in 2013, to 28,000 tonnes in 2014, to 30,000 tonnes in 2015, to 31,300 tonnes in 2016, and to 36,800 tonnes in 2017.
A rough estimation of construction waste generation is about 23 million tonnes per year, and for agriculture waste is about 3.50 million tonnes per year.

Domestic waste collected by the City begins from drop-off sites in the residential community or public area. This waste is initially taken to different transfer stations and finally taken into treatment facilities which include landfills, composting sites, and incinerators.
Construction waste is generated by construction project, building demolition or maintenance work. This waste will be used to recycle, refill, or landfill in Beijing.
Organic waste from restaurant is collected and transported by 11 companies in Beijing. The transport fee is about 100 RMB/tonne or 11RMB/barrel (120 Liter).
